Vintage End Table

end table

Remember these Vintage End Tables?  I bet you do!  If you didn’t grow up with one, chances are you know someone who did.  Which is exactly why, when a friend of mine saw this one at a thrift store, she was overcome with nostalgia and just had to buy it.  All it needed was a little TLC, which I was more than happy to give. Too Cool For School Lockers

These Too Cool For School Lockers may be super cute now, but when I first got my hands on them, they were a hot mess.  See how I whipped them back into shape and gave them a fun, multi-colored paint job in this Murals by Marcy video tutorial.

In case you’re wondering, I used Valspar Signature Paint with primer in it.  Colors are Everglade Deck (the darker blue used on the body of the lockers),  Boughs of Pine (the green color), and Gypsy Rouge (the purple color).  I added white to the Everglade Deck to get the lighter shade of blue for the doors.

Front Door Makeover

Desktop2

One thing always seems to lead to another with me, and that was certainly the case with this Front Door Makeover.  Believe it or not, it started when I decided to dust the ceiling fan in my living room.  I pulled out my 8-foot ladder to reach it, and while I was up there wiping the blades I thought, “So long as I have the ladder out, I might as well dust the ledge near the front door.”  I took everything off and was dusting away.  I even took down a fake plant and gave it a good rinse in the bathtub.  But then…when I got back up on the ladder, my front door was staring me right in the face.  I was reminded of how, from the day we moved into this house, I’ve never liked it.  It just screamed 1990’s and was so ready for an update.  So, I stepped off the ladder, got my electric sander, and started going to town on the door while it was still hanging!  It was right about then that my teenage daughter got home from school. Bedroom Makeover (Part 4): Hand Painted Dresser

DSC_0053

So far in this Bedroom Makeover, we’ve turned a twin captain’s bed into a stylish day bed, and we’ve made our own upholstered headboard.  Now comes my favorite project in this makeover:  A Hand Painted Dresser.   It’s painted to combine my daughter’s love of all things vintage…and more importantly to capture her passion for music.  And, I have to say, I am positively in love with how it turned out.

Bedroom Makeover (Part 3): Up-cycled Bed

DSC_0077

Work with what you have…. for this Bedroom Makeover, that was pretty much my mantra.  Rather than buy a new daybed, which is what my teenage daughter wanted, I worked with her existing captain’s bed, hoping to turn it into a one-of-a-kind, ultra stylish, not recycled, but Up-cycled Bed.

Bedroom Makeover (Part 2): Upholstered Headboard

headboard1

This Bedroom Makeover for my 15-year old daughter started off with no real direction…just a bunch of mis-matched ideas that kept changing from one moment to the next.  So before painting or buying new bedding, we decided to focus on the bed itself.  It is, after all, the focal point of every bedroom.  My daughter wanted a day bed, but I knew we could work with what she already had.  Her captain’s bed could easily be turned on it’s side.  The only thing missing?  A headboard.  And, boom, just like that we had our starting point.  Here’s how we made an Upholstered Headboard.

Kitchen Makeover (Part 4)

photo 2 copy 4

I had entirely too much fun with this Kitchen Makeover!  It’s impossible not to when you love who you’re working with.  These homeowners not only have a young, hip sense of style…they are some of the sweetest people I know; devoted teachers (one of them was even voted Teacher of the Year last school year!), and foster parents, whose whole reason for the makeover was to accommodate foster children in their home.  Just knowing I could help with that, even in a small way, warms my heart.
