Simple Fall Touches

Simple Fall Touches

I love Fall.  I didn’t always.  But now that I live in Arizona, where the weather is glorious this time of year, I absolutely love it.  And so, I tend to get a little carried away when it comes to Fall decorating.  In my opinion, you can never have too many pumpkins or fake leaves.  Don’t judge.  The leaves don’t really turn here.  So, if we want to see those gorgeous yellow, orange, and brown hues, we have to embrace the fake.

After adding some Simple Fall Touches to my kitchen, I thought I’d share a few pictures so you can see how easy it is to make your home feel warm, inviting, and seasonally festive.  As a bonus, I’ll throw in the world’s simplest recipe for pumpkin muffins with a brown sugar streusel top.  They’ll make your home even smell like Fall! Crafty Christmas

Crafty ChristmasHave yourself a very Crafty Christmas!  I certainly am.  For the last couple of months I’ve been up to my eyeballs in building and painting decorations for a candy-themed Christmas party.  (Which explains why I haven’t posted any blogs in a while.)  Now that I’m finally finished, I’m free to move on to other projects, and more importantly, my husband is free to park in the garage again.  Just take a look at how all my Christmas craftiness took over: Continue Reading →

Galentine’s Party

heart-felt

Regardless of whether you have a significant other to celebrate Valentine’s Day with, a Galentine’s Party is a sweet way to tell your favorite gal pals how much they mean to you.  Get it?  GAL-entine’s?  (That’s for those of you who thought it was a typo.)  Galentine’s was the brainchild of Amy Poehler’s character in the TV show, Parks & Recreation.  And thanks to her, I now have the perfect excuse to go over-the-top girly.  I’m talking pink napkins rolled up to look like roses, fru-fru desserts, and strawberry mimosas!  So file this under the category of “Musings” by Marcy, as I share some photos of my Galentine’s soirée.  Hope you’re inspired to get creative and have some alternative Valentine’s Day fun. Buenos Tardis: Doctor Who Goes Mexican

2015-05-09 17.56.06

Buenos Tardis, everyone…. That’s what you get when Doctor Who goes Mexican.   Talk about an odd pairing!  But it’s been a long school year, and somehow, I needed to combine the theme for this year’s Marching Band season (Doctor Who) with the mexican buffet that was being served at the end-of-the-school-year Band Banquet.  If I haven’t mentioned this before, I’m what you call a “band parent.”  That means, when my daughter is out marching on the field during half-time at her High School football games, I’m selling hotdogs and hamburgers in the concession stand.  And when the band is competing at various invitationals, I’m chaperoning and helping in any way possible.  This year, we “band parents” got to lug around a giant tardis…and I didn’t even know what a tardis was!  You have to be familiar with the British science fiction series, Doctor Who, to know that it’s a time machine in the form of a police telephone box. DIY Wedding Decor

2blog

This DIY Wedding Decor was made for a shabby chic garden wedding.  It adds a uniquely elegant flare, without breaking the bank.  All it takes is thrift store frames, some scrap wood, and paint.  (Although, in this case, thanks to a friend of mine who has a Cricut cutter, I used vinyl letters instead of hand painting them, making it that much nicer…and easier!)  Here’s a quick tutorial:

Before & After

BEFORE

BEFORE

AFTER

AFTER

I could look at Before & After photos ALL…DAY…LONG!  The subject matter is irrelevant.  So long as the difference is dramatic, I’m all over it.  That’s probably why I love painting so much.  Because even going from one paint color to another, you could look at the very same thing in a whole different light.  When something, like an old piece of furniture, has been neglected for a while…and it gets a fresh coat of paint…it’s even more gratifying.  It’s almost like I could see the clouds parting and hear the angels singing the sweet sounds of redemption!  I’m not even exaggerating.  That’s how I feel.  So I encourage you to take Before & After pictures of any projects you take on, so that satisfying feeling can last as long as you hold on to those photos. That said, I thought I would share some of my favorite Before & After photos of projects I’ve done.
