Mason Jar Motif

My kitchen is now sporting a Mason Jar Motif.   It’s what happens when I spend a little too much time on Pinterest. It’s like crack for creative people.  One minute you’re looking at beautiful pictures online… the next you’re driving through dark alleyways in search of weathered wood, and you’re buying mason jars by the case.  But just look what I have to show for it! 

I was able to update my kitchen for very little money, by replacing the old fixtures on my chandelier with clear mason jars.  Normally, I’d show you exactly how to do this, but since I got the idea from Pinterest, I’ll direct you to the site that inspired me:  www.blesserhouse.blogspot.com.

My mason jar chandelier will look even better once I upgrade the light bulbs to Edison bulbs, but for now, I’m thrilled.

I then made a mason jar hanging rack, that’s really more like artwork.  It was inspired by Emily Benziger of Yesterday’s Sweetheart.  (Be sure to check out her work at www.yesterdayssweetheart.com)  The moment I saw it, I knew I had to make one of my own.

Believe it or not, I got the wood for FREE at Lowe’s.  (Tip:  Keep your eyes peeled for discounted wood.  If it’s warped or somehow imperfect, they often have it just outside the store near the lumber section.)  After going through a stack of discounted wood, I found a single piece of 2″ x 6″ weathered wood, complete with a rusty nail.  I was immediately drawn to it, and when I took it to the register, they told me they had no idea how it got in their bin, and for me to “just take it.”  Hallelujah!  All I had to do was cut it, add some mason jars (I picked up the blue ones at Goodwill), and screw in some knobs I found at Hobby Lobby.

Can I just say, I am in love with my new Mason Jar Motif!?!  Who would have thought these simple, inexpensive projects would make me so happy! I’m now ready to sew some new kitchen curtains, then my husband and I will be tackling the kitchen island.  I’m talkin’ MAJOR MAKEOVER.  So be sure to check back to see what else is cooking in my kitchen.
