Thanksgiving Tablescape

If you love setting a pretty table as much as I do, here’s an easy DIY project that’s sure to make your Thanksgiving Tablescape memorable.  All you need is a few mini pumpkins, some spray paint, and candles.

It was slim pickin’s when I bought these mini pumpkins three days AFTER Halloween.  So if you see them at your local grocery store, grab them now!  Just remember, in design, things always look best when grouped in threes, so buy three.

You want the candle to fit snugly in the pumpkin, so when carving, start by cutting a smaller than you need circle around the stem.  Once it’s out, you can hold the candle next to it, and shave around the hole, a little at a time, until the candle squeezes in and sits firmly in place.  (Ombré painted fingernails are optional.)  😎

Once you clean out the seeds and see the candle in the pumpkin, you may decide to keep it as-is.  It certainly looks beautiful with a natural pumpkin.  But, I’m always looking for an excuse to paint, so I pulled out my gold metallic spray paint that I think was perfect for this project.  If you want to be extra snazzy, you can wrap your pumpkin in a paper doillie before spray painting, and it will create a beautiful pattern in paint.  I kept mine a simple, solid gold.

To add a little flare, I picked up some fake fall flowers and just played around with them a little bit, until I liked how they looked surrounding the pumpkin candles.  And, in about 30 minutes total, my 2013 Thanksgiving Tablescape was complete.

Of course, I immediately pulled out my Thanksgiving dishes to see what it’s going to look like.  But this DIY centerpiece goes beautifully with my everyday dishes too.  So I’ll be able to enjoy it every day leading up to Thanksgiving, giving me one more reason to be thankful.
