My daughter’s\u00a0<\/span>Bedroom Makeover <\/strong>is finished, and now it’s time for <\/span>The Big Reveal<\/strong>. \u00a0I certainly made you wait long enough for it! \u00a0But there was just so much I wanted to show you, so I had to break it up into five parts. \u00a0Now that you’ve seen most of it, let’s talk about the walls.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you’ll recall, my daughter, rebellious teenager that she is, wanted plain white walls! \u00a0Yep. \u00a0That one hit me right in the heart! \u00a0<\/span>But, this was her<\/span><\/em> bedroom makeover for her 15th birthday\u2026.so I bit my tongue. \u00a0Sure, I wanted to paint an ombr\u00e9 wall, or a dark accent wall, or even a funky pattern on the ceiling\u2026but I have to accept the fact that my daughter has her own style. \u00a0For lack of a better description, it’s earthy, vintage, and eclectic. \u00a0(I tell her she’s turning into a hippie, but that’s a whole other story. \u00a0Besides, no one needs to know she tie-dyed my underwear!)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before we bought paint for the walls, we started with the headboard. \u00a0We made our own upholstered headboard, and my daughter chose to cover it in a printed burlap. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once she saw the headboard come together, she decided not to go with white walls. \u00a0WHEW!!! \u00a0She wanted just a hint of color and ultimately settled on “Coffee and Cream” by Valspar. \u00a0I’d describe it as a taupe, with thetiniest hint of olive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We then turned her existing captain’s bed into a day bed, by flipping it onto it’s side. \u00a0Of course, we made it more stylish, with my husband’s help, by lifting it up on small wooden legs, and by painting it an antique white then distressing it.<\/span><\/p>\n

My daughter picked all new bedding, in gray-tones, and varying textures. \u00a0Her style is really starting to grow on me.<\/span><\/p>\n

We got rid of her old dresser and bought a vintage 1940’s one that I painted black with music inspired wording. \u00a0I then switched out the knobs for new glass ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

It actually came with a mirror, which I took off and am saving for another project because I had something else in mind for this particular dresser. \u00a0It was a mirror I found at Goodwill, that used to be a hideous shade of green before I painted it to match.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also found this birdcage jewelry hanger at Goodwill for $6. \u00a0(I’ve seen them for $30 at Kohl’s.) \u00a0So I painted a few clothes pins to add to it.<\/span><\/p>\n

My daughter immediately put them to use and now wants to add more clothes pins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using leftover burlap from the headboard, I was able to upholster the handmade cornice for her window. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We hung up all her instruments and then put up new cork board for all her pictures.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

In the end it all came together beautifully. \u00a0It’s not overly matchy or music themed. \u00a0It’s eclectic, and a great combination of all the things my daughter loves. \u00a0 Sometimes things just naturally fall into place when you don’t overly plan things out…and that certainly was the case with this Bedroom Makeover<\/strong>. \u00a0Hope you enjoyed The Big Reveal<\/strong>, and that you picked up some ideas for a teenage bedroom along the way. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
