There’s nothing like a fun Thrift Store Furniture Flip…and to me, this cheap little side table just screamed “Guitar Pick” from the moment I saw it. My daughter is actually the one who bought it at Goodwill for just $6.  She shares my love for redoing beat up old wood furniture.  The only problem was, this table…while having wooden legs, was topped with cheap veneer.  And it was in really bad shape, to boot! <\/p>\n

When you have deep scratches and giant pieces of veneer cracked and\/or missing, about the only thing you can do to salvage it, is to fill all the voids with putty and completely paint over the whole thing.  For my daughter, that pretty much defeated the purpose of her buying it, since it was the wood finish that she was drawn to in the first place. That’s when my husband remembered we had some wood veneer, left over from an old project, up in the attic. So, my daughter lightly sanded the existing table top, brushed on a layer of strong epoxy, and glued on a new layer of wood veneer.  <\/p>\n

My daughter did a great job applying the new wood veneer onto this little table. But, that’s when things got busy for her with work, and she was forced to abandon the project…leaving it to me.<\/p>\n

I was only too happy to oblige. I sanded the veneer to get the newly cut edges smooth. Then I prepped it for staining by brushing on a layer of pre-stain conditioner. <\/p>\n

Next, I tried my best to match the existing stain of the wooden legs. A combination of three different stains seemed to do the trick.<\/p>\n

After the stain was dried, it was time for the fun part. Did I mention my daughter told me I could do whatever I wanted with it? And, as I said from the start, the shape of the table reminded me of a guitar pick.  So, I pulled out some gold spray paint that I had on hand and decided to give it just a little sparkly flare.<\/p>\n

Next, I went online to look for images of the Fender logo. \u00a0That was all I needed to paint the word “Fender” across the top. \u00a0I used my regular acrylic craft paints and just took my time.<\/p>\n

It took a few coats of paint to get the right coverage, but I was happy with end result. This Thrift Store Furniture Flip really does look like a guitar pick! It’s perfect in our music room, although my daughter will likely be taking it to her apartment. \u00a0It’s her $6 investment, and hers to do whatever she wants with it. Typically, something this cheap wouldn’t be worth the investment. But since we didn’t spend a penny more on this and only used what we already had on hand, it was a fun family project. It strikes a chord with our love for music and DIY projects.<\/span><\/p>\n
