Sometimes it’s the simple touches that can make children fall in love with their bedrooms. A few cherry blossoms here… a couple of dragon flies there… and BAM! A once-boring bedroom becomes a fun place to hang out.

If you’ve ever thought about having a mural painted, but don’t want anything too overwhelming, simple is definitely the way to go. You can even do it yourself, if you don’t want to hire a muralist. Just start with something easy like a tree. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with that. Unless you’re one of those people who even struggles drawing stick people, then maybe stick to something you can definitely do, such as writing. The only difference is, you’ll be doing it with a paint brush. You can paint your kid’s name on the wall above their bed. I can tell you from personal experience kids LOVE that!

In this particular bedroom, I painted not just one, but two names on the wall, because it was a room shared by sisters. And notice what one of the names is hanging from… a TREE. This was definitely one of the easiest rooms I’ve worked on, but I think it’s really cute. It’s not overdone. It’s simple but fun, and I’ve always liked the color combination of pink and lime green.

Painting is really all about confidence. Once you’ve painted a tree, then you can try something else. This next bedroom is sort of a step up from that, but still very simple.

The idea came straight from stickers that the little girl had posted all over her bedroom door. She was into the whole princess/fairy tale thing. So why not add a little to it?

Each painting was sort of a floating mural which is great when you’re just starting out. By making each mural stand-alone, you can paint one, or two, or how ever many you want. My only regret in this room was that the walls themselves weren’t painted a different color to make the murals stand out more. But, I don’t always have a say in that. And, again, this post is about SIMPLE TOUCHES. These I did in a few hours.
