Kitchen Makeover (Part 3)

Primed and ready to go… When you last checked in on this Kitchen Makeover, the chalkboard paint was up and I was preparing the cabinets for painting.  All the doors and drawers were sanded and primed, as were the cabinet fronts themselves.  I loved the idea of a Robbin’s Egg blue for the cabinets, but the homeowner, who was already missing her bold green wall, wanted her favorite color back in.  So I suggested a more toned down shade of green; one that I knew would still suit her artsy and fun style, but work with the design of the kitchen.

While the paint was drying, I had the homeowner empty and clean out all the insides of the cabinets in order to put in some cool contact paper I found in a black & white houndstooth pattern.  Normally a roll of contact paper is about 5 to 6 dollars, but….are you ready for this?  This one…I found…at the 99¢ Store!  I KNOW, RIGHT?  We lined all the drawers and cabinets in this kitchen with 8 rolls!  Talk about bang for your buck!

I also recommended some new knobs for the cabinets, in a brushed nickel, that I found at Target.  This is another way to update the look of your kitchen without spending a fortune.  It’s just a little bit of an investment, depending on the number of knobs you need.   These particular ones are about $15 for a set of 5.  710223

The homeowners found some even nicer knobs, which you’ll see in the final reveal.  They also found a peel-n-stick stainless steel backsplash for behind the sink.  (This is not only relatively inexpensive, anyone can install it because it requires no cementing or grouting.) And they bought some black shelves from Ikea to put on the chalkboard wall and use as a spice rack.

This Kitchen Makeover is really coming together now!  All that’s left is the install, and a little design detail on the chalkboard wall.  I’ll be painting a graphic mural, as well as a border around the spice rack.  I can hardly wait to show you how it turned out!  I’ll show you the final reveal is tomorrow!
